What Are Compassionate Allowances

What Are Compassionate Allowances

If you live in the Alabama+ and believe that you are disabled given a physical or mental condition, chances are you will be denied after your initial application.  The Social Security Administration simply does not have the personnel or resources to ensure that they receive a complete copy of everyone who applies for Social Security Disability benefits or SSI benefits medical records.  However, the Social Security Administration has a special set of rules-called Compassionate Allowances.  Compassionate Allowances are a way of quickly identifying diseases and other medical conditions that invariably qualify under the Listing of Impairments based on minimal objective medical information due to the severity of the illness. Compassionate Allowances allow Social Security to quickly target the most obviously disabled individuals for allowances based on objective medical information that we can obtain quickly.

You can go to this link for a list of those medical conditions which should automatically qualify you for disability benefits.  Having stated this, we have had to help clients who qualified for a finding of disabled per the Compassionate Allowances and assist them in getting the necessary medical records and opinions submitted into evidence so they could receive the benefits they were legally entitled to receive.

If you suffer with a condition which falls under the Compassionate Allowances guidelines, print out what you need to show to meet one of the allowances and take it to your treating physician so they can make sure they put in detail how you meet a particular Compassionate Allowance, and if your application for Social Security Disability or SSI benefits is wrongly denied-don’t give upContact and speak with one of the experienced Alabama Disability Attorneys at Powell and Denny for a free consultation.  Virtual appointments are available through Zoom from wherever you live.
